acronyms\u00a0currently winging their way around online <em>knit n chat<\/em> groups, ravelry forums,\u00a0and any other <em>chicks with sticks\u00a0<\/em>get-togethers.\u00a0 Is it just a matter of convenience?\u00a0 Or is this new-fangled lingo designed to\u00a0create a close-knit society who can essentially communicate in a secret language?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Here are sixteen of the most common knitting acronyms decoded-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>FO \u2013 <\/strong>Finished Object <em>(newly finished project).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>FOTN \u2013 <\/strong>Fresh Off The Needles <em>(the needles are still warm to the touch).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>ISO<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> In Search Of <em>(a term often used\u00a0on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/\">ravelry <\/a>to signify a yarn search between knitters).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>KAL \u2013 <\/strong>Knit A Long <em>(a project worked on at the same time by a group of knitters).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>KIP<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> Knit in Public <em>(taking a project to the streets).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>LYS \u2013 <\/strong>Local Yarn Shop<em> (better than any ice cream or candy shop).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>LYSO \u2013 <\/strong>Local Yarn Shop Owner <em>(that special someone who gets to rule the yarn castle).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>MKAL<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> Mystery Knit A Long <em>(an organized group project especially popular on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/\">ravelry<\/a> with a series of\u00a0clues posted over a designated time period).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>OTN<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> On The Needles<em> (current project).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>SABLE<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy <em>(never enough yarn!).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>SIP \u2013 <\/strong>Sock In Progress <em>(most current sock project).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>SSS \u2013 <\/strong>Second Sock Syndrome <em>(just like a virus, it\u00a0hits every sock knitter at some point).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>TINK<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> <em>(KNIT spelled backwards,\u00a0refers to using both needles to un-knit\u00a0a project one stitch at a time in order to repair a mistake.\u00a0 Not to be confused with FROGGING,\u00a0the\u00a0rip-it, rip-it method of unraveling stitches row-by-row).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>TU \u2013<\/strong> Toe Up <em>(a specific type of sock pattern).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>UFO \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0UnFinished Object <em>(the \u2018never speak of it again\u2019 project that hides in the shadows).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>WIP<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> Work in Progress <em>(a current
