Evie In Print

Thursday, March 9th, 2017

This month as we turn the page from winter into spring, the air is buzzing with the anticipated arrival of this year’s fresh batch of warm weather yarns.  Some of the most popular cottons are stepping up their game by introducing a printed version.  This is a relatively new manufacturing process which differs from the traditional method of immersing yarn into a vat of dye and allowing the entire fibre to absorb a desired colour.   The printed method involves stamping a multi-colour pattern onto the surface of the yarn creating a mesmerizing mottled effect.

Evie Prints from Sublime is one of these cutting edge yarns, spun in Italy from the highest grade of Mako cotton.  Much lighter than its volume would suggest, this yarn is hollow at its core with a plush texture and an appealing palette that will instantly warm the senses.  The Sublime design team has put together a sensational selection of sixteen patterns to highlight the delicate beauty of this yarn and to co ordinate with the original Evie, available in solid tones.  From kimono jackets, stylish vests and pullovers to dressy scarves, cowls and hats, take a peek at what this collection has to offer-

Button Up Cardigans

Tuesday, October 18th, 2016

If the seasonal shift towards knitting involves more of a need for pint-sized apparel, then you have come to the right place.  Sublime offers up a striking collection of patterns that merge modern and traditional elements together with the latest in a series of booklets for tiny folk, The Nineteenth Little Sublime Hand Knit Book.  In this grouping of eighteen styles for newborn to toddlers, the Sublime design team has chosen bold Autumn hues complimented by paler vintage shades in Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK, a smooth natural yarn with a light bouncy handle.  This is a yarn that knits to perfection, with each and every stitch nestling neatly into place.

While we love the sun-dappled days of August, there is also the sweet anticipation of sinking our fingers into the softest chunkiest yarns that we can scoop up as summer swings into early autumn.  Every so often, a yarn catches our eye, a little plumper and more pliable than all the rest or as we like to refer to it, the gotta-have-it yarn.  Sublime has created just that, a wonderful cushiony-soft super chunky wool spun from Italian extra fine merino. Lola comes in the most irresistible array of powdery pastels, refined neutrals and contemporary shades.

Get the jump on cold weather knitting with L O L A, at two stitches per inch on 12 mm needles, you will have oodles of time to knit more than one gorgeous design from this collection-

A Need For Tweed

Saturday, October 11th, 2014

Shuffling through the fallen leaves and listening to them crunch underfoot while breathing in the woodsy scent wafting from a nearby chimney, and don’t forget that once-a-year craving for freshly-baked pumpkin pie, well…………..isn’t that just fall in a nutshell?  There is something intrinsically comforting about this time of year, as the days get shorter we ease our way back into layer after layer.  Knitters adore this season, more than any other it offers an abundance of opportunities to cover up in chunky woolen armor, all in an effort to keep the cold at bay.  Far from the silky allure of alpaca and the smoothness of merino, tweed wools have their own unmistakable charm, exuding warmth with a rustic texture that creates a heathery look flecked with tiny cotton nubs in contrasting colours.  The British have a fondness for tweeds, having been a part of their attire since the 1800’s, and brought to the forefront by Sherlock Holmes in his distinguished-looking cape and deerstalker cap.

Building on their British heritage, Sublime, have produced two separate tweed yarns, a dk and aran weight, each featuring a collection of more than twelve designs.  Let’s see a sampling of the newest styles-

Baby Blues

Saturday, June 7th, 2014

It’s a boy’s world out there with frogs to catch, forts to build, and the occasional kite to fly. With a slighter higher ratio of boys being born over girls (a prevalent trend since 1940) it really is no surprise that baby outfits are being knit predominantly in shades of blue.  Finding a good selection of patterns for baby boys is a walk in the park, just take a browse through the extensive catalogues of both Sirdar and Sublime, two leading British manufacturers offering tiny designs that are contemporary and appealing in yarns sturdy enough to stand up to whatever little guys can get into.
