Sirdar Stuffies

Wednesday, May 10th, 2017

If we could hang onto only one toy from childhood, chances are that it would be a slightly-tattered, droopy-eared stuffed animal possibly missing an eye or an appendage but with a heartwarming smile still fully intact.  Kids love soft cuddly critters, and they are so much more than a toy that doesn’t break or require battery replacements.  Stuffies can be pulled, dragged, dropped, or tossed, they keep secrets, never get grumpy or lonely.  Other than a sudsy bath once in awhile, a few stitches here and there, they require zero maintenance.

They are a forever friend, immune to the hardships of life, and always ready for a warm hug.

The Sirdar design team has come out with a brand new selection of fun squeezable animals to knit and crochet-

Shades Of Spring

Tuesday, January 24th, 2017

Soft and subtle sophistication, that seems to be the mood for this year’s showing of Spring yarns.  Speckled and flecked, printed or phased, the range of multi-dye techniques is all about blending the prettiest mid-tone palettes for a soothing effect.  Sky blue, watery aqua, silvery grey, pale green, and lilac are all front and centre while the pop colour is a bit of a surprise- orange.  Far from neon bright, this year’s version varies from a freshly-squeezed orangeade to a sweet pumpkin spice and warms up nicely with just about every colour in the spectrum.

Take a peek at some of our Shades Of Spring

Toscana DK is a captivating new cotton yarn from Sirdar with a ‘slow mo’ colour change.  Available in 100g balls for extra value and yardage, this yarn is specially-dyed in an understated palette with half a dozen hard-to-resist choices and a great selection of accompanying pattern leaflets.

One of the best marriages of natural fibre is merino and cotton, it creates a resilient yarn that adapts to any climate.  This is a yarn with just the right balance (55% organic merino/45% organic cotton) in a finer weight with a little spring to its step.  Pure Organic from our in-house collection is in stock now in fifteen hazy hues.

IMG_1066

Sock knitters will be wiggling their toes with delight when Mirasol’s Khusku hits store shelves this Spring.  Look for a pretty paintbox of colour in every 100g skein, this shimmery soft yarn is a blend of merino, bamboo sourced viscose and nylon.

IMG_1063

Katia adds a glamorous new cotton to their line-up.  Moonlight, is a chainette-style yarn which knits to a worsted weight tension, yet feels incredibly buoyant and is enhanced with silver sprinkles.  Katia offers a range of ten pale hues to choose from.

IMG_1067

Ribbon yarns twist and twirl on the needles and create amazing stitch texture.  Phildar introduces a papery-style version for warm weather tunics, shawls, and openwork tops to knit up on 8 mm needles.  Phil Mystere is big and brash in eight contemporary colours- including orangeade, turquoise, and taupe (shown above).

Gorgeous by Sirdar

Wednesday, January 4th, 2017

As the snow piles up all around us it gives even more reason to stay indoors and practice what the Danish refer to as ‘hygge’ (pronounced hoo-gah) meaning to surround yourself in a cosy state of comfort and well-being.   Its not a new concept, after all don’t we naturally tend to hibernate at this time of year? Knitting with big and bulky yarns is also part of this current trend, the thicker the better, to enjoy the slow and steady movement of the needles while generating instant warmth.  This week we shine the spotlight on a new yarn from Sirdar, that is creating lots of knitworthy buzz this winter.

f222-ball-shot

Meet the new diva in town!  G O R G E O U S is a softly-spun wool blend, richly-dyed in six winter hues and ready for a flurry of knitting activity on 20 mm needles.  Each 150 gram skein includes a simple cowl pattern printed on the label.

7963

The ultimate in softness, this trio of designs (Sirdar leaflet #7963) offers something for every knitter’s winter project list.  Choose a super plush stocking stitch throw knit with just four skeins of Gorgeous (col. #602) or Sirdar’s heart-shaped rug (col. #601) designed to warm up cold feet first thing in the morning, and an irresistibly plump tea cosy (col. #603) for sitting n sipping.

7964

Fluff up your winter wardrobe with one of these four chill busters.  Everyone loves options and each of these stylish accessories is designed to knit up in an evening.  One skein required for hat or cowl and two skeins required for both scarves.  (Sirdar leaflet #7964). Shown above from left to right (col. #602, #605, #603, and #600).

After the holidays, your home deserves a special treat and here are a variety of Gorgeous hand knitted accessories from Sirdar’s design team.  (Leaflet #7965).  Shown above from left to right (col. #601, #603, #600, and #604).
