Pure Organic

Tuesday, February 7th, 2017

What do you imagine as the perfect harmony in yarn ingredients?  Is it the natural softness and smooth handle of cotton combined with the springy texture and multi-season comfort of merino?  Yes… cotton and merino really do go together like birds of a feather and we can’t keep it a secret any longer after finding this incredible blend of fibres spun into a fine fingering weight yarn!

The quintessential marriage of natural fibres, Pure Organic is unlike any yarn we have had on our radar before.  Adhering to a strict organic process, this merino is certified as ‘non-mulesed.’ It is grown and sheared from ethically-raised sheep, along with cotton fibre cultivated without the use of harmful pesticides. These two fibres are milled, dyed and spun as one without any toxic chemicals to produce a yarn that is healthier for our environment and ultimately for the person who wears the finished garment.

Its hard to believe ten years (or 3650 knitting days) has passed since the first batches of kettle-dyed merino were hung up to dry at Malabrigo’s headquarters in Uruguay.  What started out as a small family operation now produces seventeen yarn varieties and over three hundred unique colourways.  To celebrate the exciting tenth anniversary, Malabrigo enlisted the creative talents of the world’s top knitwear designers to put together a collection of patterns focused primarily on their newly-developed signature colourway, Aniversario, which blends together the most popular colour palette as chosen by knitters worldwide.
